Worked examples (illustrative)
Worked example 1: An all-rounder's day (T20)
A top-order all-rounder bats 35 (28 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) and takes 2 wickets for 24 in 4 overs (1 maiden, 6 dots).
- Batting: 35 runs (35 pts) + 4 fours (16 pts) + 2 sixes (12 pts) = 63 pts
- Strike-rate bonus (SR 125): no bonus (under 175 threshold at 50 runs)
- Bowling: 2 wickets (50 pts) + 1 maiden (4 pts) + 6 dots (6 pts) = 60 pts
- Fielding: 1 catch (8 pts).
- Captain multiplier (2x): applied to the total (123 × 2 = 246).
Worked example 2: A wrist-spinner in ODI
A wrist-spinner takes 4 wickets for 38 in 10 overs (2 maidens) and scores 12 with the bat.
- Bowling: 4 wickets (100 pts) + 3-wicket bonus (4 pts) + 2 maidens (8 pts) = 112 pts
- Batting: 12 runs (12 pts) + 2 fours (8 pts) = 20 pts
- Fielding: 0.
- Total: 132 pts.
Worked example 3: A Test opener
A Test opener scores 78 (180 balls, 9 fours) and takes 1 catch.
- Batting: 78 runs (78 pts) + 9 fours (36 pts) = 114 pts.
- Fifty bonus: 4 pts.
- Fielding: 1 catch (8 pts).
- Total: 126 pts.
How format changes the ledger
T20 rewards strike rate and dot balls (batters and bowlers both). ODI rewards strike rate in stages (50 / 100) and milestones at lower value than T20 because the format is longer. Test rewards time at the crease and wickets, with lower bonuses throughout because the match is longer.

Extended scoring playbook
The fantasy cricket points system is the ledger that decides every contest. The system varies by operator and by format. The editorial desk's playbook is to track the operator's published system, watch for changes, and adjust the team-build to the new system within a single contest window.
Run-scoring mechanics
Run scoring in T20 rewards strike rate. A 49-run knock at a 200+ strike rate scores the same as a 50-run knock at a 175+ strike rate (both trigger the strike-rate bonus). The milestone bonus kicks in at 50 and 100; the boundary bonus is per four and per six.
Wicket-taking mechanics
Wicket-taking in T20 rewards wickets (25 pts), maiden overs (4 pts), and dot balls (1 pt per dot in T20). The wicket bonus is the largest single component of a bowler's score; the dot ball bonus adds up across 4 overs.
Strike-rate bonus thresholds
Strike-rate bonuses in T20 trigger at 50 runs (≥175 SR) and 100 runs (≥150 SR). In ODI, the thresholds shift to 100 runs (≥100 SR) and 200 runs (≥100 SR). The thresholds are operator-specific; the editorial desk's table is a representative model.
Duck penalties
Duck penalties in T20 (-2 pts), ODI (-3 pts), and Test (-4 pts) are the negative side of the ledger. A duck at the captain slot can swing a contest. Watch the venue behaviour before picking a captain who might be the first batter dismissed.
Fielding bonuses
Fielding bonuses (catch 8 pts, stumping 12 pts, direct run-out 12 pts, run-out assist 6 pts) are the silent scorer. A wicketkeeper with 3 catches scores a meaningful bonus. A fielder with 3 catches triggers the 3-catch-haul bonus (4 pts).
Captain and vice-captain multipliers
Captain and vice-captain multipliers (2x and 1.5x) apply to the player's total score, including all bonuses. A 130-pt captain pick with the 2x multiplier scores 260; a 130-pt vice-captain pick scores 195. The multiplier is the cleanest leverage point in the system.
Format-specific deltas
T20 rewards strike-rate and dot-ball mechanics. ODI rewards strike-rate in stages and milestones at lower value because the format is longer. Test rewards time at the crease and wickets, with lower bonuses throughout. The delta between formats is the gap between T20 average scores (150-200 pts) and Test average scores (200-300 pts).
Long-term scoring discipline
Long-term players re-verify the operator's scoring system every time the operator publishes a change. The re-verification is a quick read of the change-log and a quick comparison against the previous version. The re-verification takes 5 minutes and catches most of the drift that happens between published changes.
